State of emergency in Turkey
Some 23 million people in Syria and Turkey have been affected by yesterday’s and today’s earthquakes and aftershocks, the World Health Organization (WHO) says. The death toll stands at more than 5,000, but the WHO warns that the number could rise to 20,000. Ten Turkish provinces are now officially disaster areas. Turkey has declared a state of emergency for the next three months. Dozens of countries have offered assistance.
