For his part, Colonel William Castaño, director of the Police Directorate of Carabineros and Environmental Protection, indicated that “of the 1,102 municipalities that Colombia has, 174 are being affected by the illegal exploitation of mining deposits, specifically for the extraction of gold. That is why the National Police focuses its main efforts on five areas of the country, Antioquia and southern Bolívar; Chocó and Caldas; Nariño, Valle and Cauca; Amazonas, Putumayo and Caquetá; the fifth is Guainía and Vichada”.

The Ministry of Defense assures that to date it has carried out 312 operations of this type throughout the national territory, mainly in five regions of the country, as well as the seizure of 421 elements of yellow machinery, including motorized pumps, backhoes, dredgers and engines used for the illegal minery. In portfolio figures, 846 backhoes have been destroyed and 13 kilograms of solid inputs and 368 gallons of liquid inputs have been seized.
