Real Madrid travels to Morocco without a number of permanent employees, where the World Cup for clubs will be played in the coming days. The injured Thibaut Courtois and Karim Benzema, among others, are missing from last season’s Champions League winner.
Courtois and Benzema were also missing last weekend in the 1-0 loss against RCD Mallorca. Courtois dropped out in the warm-up, while Benzema was already absent.
If Real Madrid reach the final on Saturday, Courtois and Benzema may be available again. The same goes for defender Éder Militão. Lucas Vázquez, Eden Hazard and Ferland Mendy also do not travel to Morocco due to injuries.
Partly due to the many injuries, Real Madrid is not exactly in shape. The eight-time winner of the Champions League has won just one of the last three league games. The gap with rival FC Barcelona therefore increased to eight points last weekend.
Real Madrid may enter the semi-finals at the World Cup for club teams and will play for the first time on Wednesday. Real Madrid won the World Cup for club teams four times before. The last time was in the 2018/2019 season.
‘De Koninklijke’ will compete in the semi-final against the Egyptian leader Al-Ahly, who eliminated MLS club Seattle Sounders in the quarter finals. The other semi-final is between Flamengo from Brazil and Al-Hilal.
