Vitesse relinquished a comfortable lead against FC Emmen in the Eredivisie on Saturday. Coach Phillip Cocu’s team led 0-2, but had to settle for a point afterwards: 2-2. Excelsior and RKC Waalwijk failed to score in an entertaining duel.
Vitesse needed two deep balls to make it 0-2 at De Oude Meerdijk. Million Manhoef escaped attention after half an hour and decisively opened the score. Moments later, Carlens Arcus almost identically doubled the margin.
Emmen made the important connection goal before the break. Vitesse goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen, formerly active at the club from Drenthe, had to allow a rebound after a shot from Mark Diemers. Jasin-Amin Assehnoun then tapped in.
Vitesse was pushed back in the second half, but seemed to be able to return home with three points. Emmen received wages for work just before time. After a nice individual action by Ole Romeny, Vitesse defender Dominik Oroz worked the ball into his own goal under pressure from Ahmed El Messaoudi.
Midfielder Davy Pröpper was in the base at Vitesse for the first time since his return to the football fields. He played seventy minutes. Marco van Ginkel, who had returned from PSV, remained on the bench. Winter acquisition Mike te Wierik made his debut at Emmen.
