Her predecessors Tony Junior, Gaby Blaaser and Thomas van der Vlugt did not end up with the love of their lives. Yet that was no reason for Sylvia Geersen to refrain from participating in the program De Bachelorette. The model tells NU.nl that she had little experience with dating beforehand.
“Participating in The Bachelorette was the opportunity for me to date different men (seventeen, ed.), Without it being weird,” says Geersen. “I’ve been single for the first time for a while and I’m really open to finding love. But because I’ve always been in steady relationships, I don’t have much dating experience. So why not find love with a little help?”
The Bachelor was first shown in the US in 2002. It became a successful format that got its own version in different countries, including us. Where the coveted bachelors in the first seasons of the program were unknown Dutch people, that changed with the participation of Tony Junior. The DJ was succeeded by influencer Blaaser and YouTuber and presenter Van der Vlugt.
The fourth celebrity to participate in the program is 37-year-old Geersen. She became known to the public through her participation in Hollands Next Top Model in 2006. She reached the final and finished in second place, behind Kim Feenstra. In the past year, Geersen appeared in various programs, including Special Forces, The Roast of Famke Louise and De Verraders.
‘Sending men home was not easy’
Geersen soon said yes after being asked, but wondered what it would be like to date under the watchful eye of viewers at home. That didn’t turn out to be unnatural or uncomfortable at all. “I did not realize that I was being filmed and forgot that the cameras were there. The production also sometimes left the cameras without putting anyone behind them.” The advantage of dating on camera? “There was perfect lighting everywhere!”
The model looks back on the whole adventure with very positive feelings, although she found it exciting. “I have participated in several programs before, but it was always with other participants. Now the whole show is about me and my search for love. But I really had a fantastic time. I enjoyed the beautiful shooting locations, beautiful dates and sweet, handsome men. It was one of the best experiences of my life.”
What the model did have trouble with was sending men home. “Those men traveled to South Africa especially for me. I found it difficult to send them home.”

‘Presenting The Bachelorette was a dream come true’
Fortunately, Geersen had support from Monica Geuze, who presented the program for the first time. And she did so with great pleasure. “I really understand when people participate in the program, because it is a great adventure. And for me it was just as much fun to assist Sylvia.”
Geuze himself would not soon participate in the program. “I like it way too much to present it. As a big fan of the program, it was a dream come true.”
Geuze recently announced that she stopped vlogging after eight years. She will focus more on presenting in the coming period. “Presenting is something I love to do. And that certainly doesn’t have to be just programs that I like to watch myself, as long as the format appeals to me. Conversely, I also watch enough programs that I really don’t want to have anything to do with. “
Geersen cannot reveal what her search for love has yielded. She is satisfied with the selection of the men who have entered the battle to conquer her heart. “I passed on to the program makers which men I like and they then started looking for men who meet my wishes. And they did a good job.”
The Bachelorette with Geersen can be seen on Videoland from Thursday.
