This British archipelago in the North Sea has regained its Viking soul, celebrating, as before Covid, its “Up – helly-Aa” festival. And for the first time, women and girls participate.
After the parade in Viking costumes through the streets of Lerwick, an impressive torchlight procession takes place, which culminates, as tradition goes back a century and a half, with the burning of a longship, a Viking galley.
