Yuriel Celi will be linked to Hull City for two and a half years.
Today the transfer of Yuriel Celi to Hull City was made official after several weeks. Likewise, it was announced that he will be on loan for two seasons at Universitario de Deportes. The player will join the short list of Peruvians who signed for an English club.
Universitario confirmed the signing of Yuriel Celi for League 1 and Copa Sudamericana 2023
The 20-year-old midfielder lived a few hectic weeks with the uncertainty of his future, although his separation from Mannucci and the transfer from Hull City could be finalized.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Yuriel Celi from Carlos A. Mannucci for an undisclosed price! The 20-year-old joined Club Universitario de Deportes in Peru on a one-year loan,” the institution wrote on its social media.
In turn, the exAcademia Cantolao became reinforcement number 14 of the ‘U’. The team led by Carlos Compagnucci is looking for the long-awaited championship after a 10-season drought and has added nine national and five foreign soccer players to its ranks.
The last to emigrate to the European country was Rodrigo Vilca, who reached an agreement with Newcastle in 2020 after his good season with Deportivo Municipal. He joined the ‘magpies’ subsidiary, where he did not feature very regularly, so he had to go on loan to Doncaster Rovers.
Yuriel Celi will become a new Universitario player
The Peruvian midfielder will be loaned out by Hull City for two seasons, depending on the objectives met with the ‘creams’.
The midfielder also returned to Peru to reinforce Universitario, however, he went unnoticed and failed to win ownership. Currently, he joined Newcastle U21 and has been playing in Premier League 2.
Rodrigo Vilca participated in the under 21 duel between Newcastle and Sunderland, which ended in defeat for his team.
Nolberto Solano is probably the most remembered in England, due to his time in Newcastle, he was also the first Peruvian to arrive in that country. He arrived in 1998 after his great stint with Boca Juniors of Argentina. The ‘Maestrito’ was consecrated twice with the ‘magpies’, lifting the Intertoto Cup and FA Cup trophy.

The 20-year-old footballer was able to have his first experience abroad, however, there was a detail that worked against him.
The former member of the national team not only defended the shirt of said club, but also that of Aston Villa, West Ham United, Leicester City, Hull City and Hartlepool United. In the latter he hung up the boots in 2012.

André Carrillo had a stint in the Premier League prior to joining Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia. He was loaned to Watford by Benfica and only stayed for one season. La ‘Culebra’ scored two goals and gave two assists in 30 games.
Claudio Pizarro signed for Chelsea in 2007 at the express request of the Portuguese coach José Mourinho. The ‘Bombardero de los Andes’ could not transfer what was done in Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich to ‘the blues’ and only registered two goals. His return to Germany accelerated and after a year he returned to the ‘lizards’.

Other Peruvians who showed their talent in England were the following: Goalkeeper Diego Penny at Burnley (2008), striker Ysrael Zúñiga at Coventry City (2000) and wingers Paolo Hurtado at Reading FC and Cristian Benavente at Milton Keynes Dons (2015). .
The 2002 category must add a certain number of points (15) to obtain the work permit called Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) and play in England. For this reason, he was transferred to Universitario so that he can complete that requirement by playing in the Copa Sudamericana and, perhaps, joining the Peruvian team.
In that sense, Hull City, unlike the ‘U’, announced that the loan was for one year, as Celi could get the score sooner than expected and travel to Europe to compete in the Football League Championship.
