Aircraft manufacturer Boeing will deliver the very last new Boeing 747 on Tuesday. After more than fifty years, this marks the end of an era.
The 747-8 freighter is the 1,574th aircraft of this model to roll out of the factory. The model has been in production for 55 years. This aircraft is intended for the American Atlas Air.
The takeoff of the very last new ‘Queen of the Sky’ can only be attended by invited guests. Thousands of current and former Boeing employees, customers and suppliers will be in attendance at the Everett plant in the US.
The Boeing 747 was the first aircraft with two aisles. The aircraft can be recognized by the characteristic hump, under which a second floor is hidden.
KLM’s cargo department, which still operates under the name Martinair, will say goodbye to the last 747 cargo aircraft in 2026.
The last new aircraft will depart on Tuesday at 7 p.m. (Dutch time). Boeing has provided a link that allows interested parties to watch.
