Sergio Mayer was named the King of Mariachi for International Mariachi Day. Upon being crowned, he performed I am the adventurer with other stars, but trying to continue with the song, he was out of breath.

As every year, on the night of January 30, International Mariachi Day was celebrated at the Teatro Ferrocarrilero, where Arleth Terán and Mayer were crowned. The actor gave a short speech upon being named King of Mariachi and invited the musicians to have a dovecote with him as part of his celebration.
“Being part of the history of this great celebration, the first king in history, in 35 years, really what a great honor, to go down in history (…) Shall we have one?” he said.
Before starting to sing, the former deputy warned that his interpretation might not be the best because he remembered that he left Garibaldi because he “did not sing”, so he hoped they would not leave him alone during the song.
“But don’t leave me alone, because otherwise, let’s see, I want to clarify, they kicked me out of Garibaldi because I didn’t sing, I don’t want them to kick me out of the theater today”
Halfway through the song, Sergio couldn’t continue singing because he lost his breath due to the rhythm of the song. He took out his inhaler and took a while to breathe.
While he was recovering his air, the musicians continued playing, so the actor returned to sing in “I am the adventurer, pure heart.”

This caused dozens of Internet users to criticize both the appointment of Sergio and Arleth Terán, as well as the performance of the former member of Garibaldi on stage.
“What a shame, what a lack of respect for the charro suit”, “Tache. Sergio Mayer doesn’t even know the song”, “Ways to show the world that you are a talentless clown”, “Right now anyone can be the king of anything”, were some of the reactions of the users.

Leaving the negative comments behind, Sergio thanked mariachi Chucho López on his Instagram account for having crowned him the new king of his union.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you to my friends the mariachis, for the great distinction of crowning me your first King of the mariachis,” wrote the actor.
At the time, when it became known that Sergio Mayer was chosen to be the King of Mariachi, the Secretary of the Mexican Union of Mariachis, Fernando Carmona, assured in an interview with De Primera Mano that a large part of the mariachis would not agree with this decision because the former deputy is not a singer who represents Mexican music.

“We do not recognize that appointment,” Carmona said on behalf of the Unión Mexicana de Mariachis.
One of the last times that Mayer was criticized before his dove was at the beginning of January, when Internet users made him a trend on social networks for showing off his “disruptive” look.
In December, the protagonist of Mujeres Infieles showed in a short meeting with the press that he had put on his nails black and was wearing some large rings.
Mayer said this was his way of showing that he could look very formal, with earrings and painted nails, but he also wore a suit (Screenshot/Twitter)
When questioned by reporters about this, he commented that it was his way of showing the other part of the image, with “contrasts.”
“It looks darketon, right? I’ve always been like that, very careful precisely about the image and everything. It’s a little disruptive, precisely because I’ve always been in that aspect, but I like that contrast,” Mayer said.
It quickly went viral because users questioned whether Sergio is really “disruptive” or simply in an age crisis, seeking to adapt to new fashions.
