The Congress of the Republic reported that this Tuesday, January 31, the debate on the constitutional project to advance the 2023 elections will resume in Parliament. After this initiative is rejected and later, reconsidered, the legislators will put on the table this measure requested by President Dina Boluarte.

The legislator did not hesitate to criticize President Dina Boluarte by assuring that “she is incapable of governing the country.”

Through a statement, it was the president of Congress, José Williams, who suspended Monday’s session to move it to Tuesday and thus continue debating this important project.

After the vote of the parliamentarians, the head of the Constitution Commission, Hernando Guerra, requested an intermission room to listen to each of the benches and propose a new substitute text, a request that was accepted by Williams Zapata.

When it was expected that the issue would be debated in the afternoon, it was decided to postpone the plenary until tomorrow, Tuesday 31 at 11 am, as there was no internal agreement. Earlier, it was possible to approve the reconsideration of the substitute text of the project to advance the elections for 2023, with 66 votes in favor, 49 against and 6 abstentions.

“The plenary session of this January 30 was suspended until Tuesday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m., the date on which a new replacement text will be voted on, referring to the advancement of the general elections for 2023,” the Parliament statement read. .

On this occasion, Fuerza Popular, Avanza País and Alianza para el Progreso voted in favor of the reconsideration, while the left-wing benches voted against the measure to advance the elections.

The Plenary of the Congress of the Republic approved with 65 votes the reconsideration of the debate to advance the elections for this 2023.

There were 49 congressmen who voted not to reconsider the election debate for October 2023.

Congressman Jorge Montoya considered that Fuerza Popular “wants to run for the elections” and that, for this reason, he promotes the initiative to advance elections for this 2023.

“There are political interests of Fuerza Popular, which are above national interests. I believe that they want to run for the elections, position themselves in the elections. I can’t find another logical explanation,” said parliamentarian Montoya on Canal N.

“I am not going to reduce the pressure of the street, the violence, because these elections will be held within a year and throughout this period, the violent people have their own agenda, which is the seizure of power. This is a communist seizure to seize power, they want to do it their way,” he added.

The congresswoman reiterated and guaranteed that the leader of Fuerza Popular, Keiko Fujimori, will not appear in the new electoral elections.

“To reiterate what has been said: Keiko Fujimori is not going to run for the elections. (Not even Congress?) I understand not. She is not going to apply, and it is also important that our intention is understood, ”she declared on Channel N.

“In the decision of our advance, there is no encouragement that other political forces could reach […]. There is no hidden desire to favor Fuerza Popular. I am sorry for the perception that is had, but I do believe in the word Keiko Fujimori, ”she added.

President Dina Boluarte urged Congress to approve the early elections in order to hear the clamor of the people. In addition, she specified that if said reconsideration is not approved, she will present two urgent legislative projects.

“If the advancement of elections for 2023 does not prosper, the Executive will present two legislative initiatives as a matter of urgency,” said President Boluarte before Parliament’s decision to approve the reconsideration of the debate on the aforementioned project.
