Valencia CF fired coach Gennaro Gattuso on Monday evening. The former AC Milan player was only employed by the club from Orange City for seven months.
In the short message on its own website, the club does not give a reason for the dismissal of Gattuso. Valencia currently occupies fourteenth place in the Primera División. Last season, ‘Los Che’ finished ninth in the highest division of Spanish football.
Salvador ‘Voro’ González will do the honors in the dugout for the time being and that is not the first time. The 59-year-old born Valencian acted as (interim) trainer at Valencia no less than six times before.
Gatusso was previously head coach at Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa, AC Milan and Napoli. He was also briefly active in the youth academy of AC Milan, the club for which he played a total of 468 official matches as a controlling midfielder between 1999 and 2012.
One Dutchman is currently under contract at Valencia in the form of Justin Kluivert. The winger came over from AS Roma on a rental basis last summer, but was not yet able to secure a permanent base in Valencia.
