This priest, son of poor Piedmontese peasants, devotes his life to the young people of the working-class neighborhoods of Turin. His pedagogy is based on trust and kindness. He founded the Society of Saint Francis de Sales and the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians to teach young people a trade and Christian life. He was proclaimed “father and master of youth” by John Paul II in 1988.
