Russia increases the military offensive on the southern front of Ukraine. This Sunday, Russian troops have bombarded the port city of Kherson, leaving 3 dead and at least 6 injured, according to the country’s president, Volodimir Zelensky.
“Today, the Russian army has been shelling Kherson viciously throughout the day. Residential buildings, various social and transportation facilities including a hospital, a post office and a bus station have been damaged. Two nurses were injured in the hospital. So far, there are reports of six injuries and three deaths,” Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky said.
Fighting continues in the east
Since the Russians left this region in November, fighting in the area has been quieter than in the east, where fighting has not stopped.
This Sunday, the governor of Kharkov also reported that a Russian attack hit a four-story residential building that killed one person, while the pro-Russian authorities in Zaporizhia denounced a Ukrainian attack on a railway bridge that left four dead.
Ukraine has the support of the EU
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said ahead of the EU-Ukraine summit on February 3 that Ukraine has “the unconditional support of the bloc” and that it needs to prevail against Russian attacks to defend “the European values”.
