Congress of the Republic debates on the advancement of Elections

The Congress of the Republic will debate this Monday, January 30, the reconsideration of the early elections for 2023, proposed by the president of the Constitution Commission, Hernando Guerra García. Detailing more about this call, it was reported that the session will begin at 10 in the morning, as stated in the letter shared with all legislators.

The legislator did not hesitate to criticize President Dina Boluarte by assuring that “she is incapable of governing the country.”

As recalled, in the last congressional assembly, parliamentarians rejected this constitutional proposal to speed up the elections, with 45 votes in favor, 65 against, and 2 abstentions.

However, after knowing the result, a reconsideration of the vote was presented, which will be seen in the session this Monday.

Through his social networks, the president of Congress, José Williams, stated that it is important to “reflect” on the relevance of his “decision” in the future of the country. In this sense, he promised to work for the benefit of a democratic succession.

The former premier did not hesitate to criticize the actions of Parliament in the face of the new protests and violent demonstrations that are taking place in Lima and in the regions.

“I urge parliamentarians to reflect responsibly on the decision to be made. As president of Congress, I promise to work for the necessary consensus so that this transition process gives the population peace of mind, ”he wrote on his official Twitter account.

The president, Dina Boluarte, spoke when she learned that this Monday the 30th Congress will debate the advancement of elections and left this responsibility to Parliament.

ANGR presents a project to Congress to advance elections in mid-2023

“The regional governors urge the Executive and Legislature to put down attitudes to advance elections for 2023, thus avoiding further bloodshed in our country,” said the National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR).

“If tomorrow (Monday, January 30) the advancement of elections for 2023 does not prosper, the Executive will present two legislative initiatives as a matter of urgency,” said the president in a Message to the Nation.

During her message to the Nation, the Head of State gave details of the Executive’s proposals in case Parliament rejects this constitutional project again.

“The first proposal will be to debate a constitutional reform so that the general elections are this year 2023, the first round in October and the second in December.”

“The second proposal is a bill, which will be destined to settle once and for all the debate on the reform of the Constitution, an issue that is permanently used to undermine any democratic solution. The next elected Congress should entrust the Constitution Commission with the total reform of the 1993 Constitution.

Víctor Cutipa of the Perú Bicentenario party, stated that he expected Dina Boluarte to resign in his speech and regretted that she did not listen to the demands of the population.

“She listens with her mouth and not with her ear. What the street is manifesting, almost in its entirety, the resignation of Dina Boluarte. Although we in Congress are counting down and the early elections I consider to be a fact. I very much expected that tonight Dina Boluarte would announce her resignation from the Executive and tomorrow we will be deciding the advancement of the elections, but it is unacceptable that she intends to throw the ball at us, ”she said in RPP Noticias.

For his part, Hernando Guerra García (Popular Force) welcomed Dina Boluarte’s announcements because they are in line with what her bench proposed some time ago.

“Hopefully this will make you reflect especially on the benches that are in denial, not on those that are in radical blackmail,” he said in the Cuarto Poder program.
