A 42-year-old woman, who was hospitalized with burns on 80% of her body in the city of Corrientes, died in the last few hours and the local justice system is investigating the case as an alleged femicide, sources from the investigation reported.
This is Alba Edith Ricotti, 42, a laboratory technician at the Juan Pablo II Pediatric Hospital, who had been admitted on Thursday night after the episode recorded at her home in the Serantes de Corrientes neighborhood. Despite the efforts of the doctors, the woman died this Sunday afternoon due to the seriousness of the injuries caused by the fire: she had compromised airways.
According to preliminary data provided by the authorities, Ricotti was injured after an argument with her husband, César Daniel Acevedo (41). The flames also reached her three-year-old daughter and her alleged femicide.

A first version indicates that the woman was doused with alcohol, apparently by her partner, around 11:30 p.m. Later, Acevedo took her in her car to the “General San Martín” teaching hospital in Corrientes, where he too was hospitalized with burns of varying degrees on various parts of her body.
Meanwhile, the child was referred to the Pediatric Hospital in the capital of Corrientes where his mother worked. From that health center, his colleagues mourned his death.

“It is with deep regret that you inform us of the death of Alba Ricotti, a laboratory service technician at our hospital. We send our condolences to her daughter, her family, her friends and co-workers. A simple woman, a fighter, an example of overcoming. Her departure is a hard blow for those who shared the day to day with her. Rest in peace dear Alba!”, can be read on the wall of the hospital.
Within the framework of the investigation, in charge of the Fiscal Investigation Unit together with the 21st Urban Police Station of the Corrientes Police, the man remains in custody while he remains hospitalized. Sources of the case indicated that in the search of the victim’s house, they found flammable elements, according to Norte de Corrientes.

So far in 2023, there have been 17 femicides and one related femicide, according to data from the “Adriana Marisel Zambrano” Observatory, of the Casa del Encuentro. Among them, that of Nilda Rosa González Ojeda, in Francisco Álvarez. The 29-year-old woman, who was murdered and dismembered by her partner, on December 21.
“Macho violence hurts our entire society. We are committed to the search for equality and we are going to redouble our efforts so that there are no more Nildas for whom we cry like today”, wrote the President, after the crime.

Although he was not the only victim. Another case that caused a stir was the femicide of María Laura Cejas. Her body was found by a cartonero in a field in General Rodríguez, wrapped in padding. The experts confirmed that the woman had been sexually abused and suffocated in a farm in Moreno. She was the mother of a girl and a teenager.
The Casa del Encuentro also noted the linked femicide of Jorge Néstor Vega, the councilor killed when he was playing tennis by his partner’s ex.
In Córdoba, Sofia Bravo, who was fighting for the Trans Labor Quota, disappeared on January 5 and on January 14 she was found murdered on the side of Provincial Route 4, near La Carlota. A trucker was arrested for the crime. Another driver was arrested for the femicide of Valeria Oviedo, a 21-year-old girl who was killed with a blow and thrown into an abandoned tavern 7 kilometers from Sacanta.
