Violence in Zacatecas left another policeman assassinated; they added four in a week

On the night of this January 27, a state police officer was assassinated in the municipality of Guadalupe, Zacatecas. This was confirmed by the Spokesperson of the State Peacebuilding Board, which detailed that the uniformed man and one other man were attacked with a firearm on Cardos street in the La Comarca neighborhood.

After receiving an emergency call, Civil Protection went to the scene. However, paramedics were unable to do anything for the victims of the attack, as both were found without vital signs.

“Through the 9-1-1 Emergency System, it was reported that on Cardos street in the La Comarca neighborhood, an attack with a firearm was registered against two men, which caused the immediate mobilization of security corporations, who confirmed the fact and reported that Civil Protection paramedics assessed the victims and no longer had vital signs,” the agency reported.

The attackers are on the run; State authorities are working on their search. According to the agency: “Security corporations from the three levels of government have deployed an important operation to locate those responsible.”

On January 23, the Zacatecas Public Security Secretariat (SSP) confirmed the murder of Sandra Espinoza Ramírez, who was working as a Road Safety police officer. Without going into details, the agency noted that the woman “lost her life in the line of duty.”

Local media reported that the woman, who had been serving as a transit agent for 22 years, was married, had three children and two grandchildren. She was murdered in the municipality of Calera.

The following day, the Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office reported the death of Pablo Alberto Gaspar Nieto, who was a member of the Investigative Police (PDI). The man was in the community of Estación San José when he was attacked by a group of people who shot him several times.

They murdered a Zacatecas police officer for the third consecutive day

Since Monday, January 23, several armed attacks against police elements have been reported, which has left three fatalities in Guadalupe, Fresnillo and Calera.

The police officer was rushed to a hospital; however, he died hours later due to the seriousness of the injuries that his attackers caused him with a firearm.

Later, the SSP announced that the municipal police officer Damaris Vianey Villaneda Robles died the victim of an assault against her. The officer was murdered on the morning of January 25 on Lucitano street in the El Hípico neighborhood, in the municipality of Guadalupe.

The four murders that occurred in a period of one week were added to the death of Carlos Alejandro Picasso Rivera, who was an active member of the Penitentiary Police. The latter died on January 9 due to his serious state of health after the escape attempt at the Cieneguillas prison in Fresnillo.

Police elements have not been the only recent victims of violence. In January of this year, the death of four young people who were traveling in a car on the border between the states of Jalisco and Zacatecas on December 25 was confirmed.

Three days later, the authorities found the vehicle in which they were traveling and a grave where their bodies were presumed to be. On January 21 of this year, it was confirmed that the corpses belonged to Irma Paola Vargas Montoya, 27, and her cousins, Daniela Márquez Pichardo and Viviana Márquez Pichardo, 31 and 26, respectively.

While on January 24 it was announced that the body of José Melesio Gutiérrez Padilla was found in the drug pit, who was engaged to Daniela Márquez and was with the three young women.
