PSV booked a difficult victory in the Eredivisie on Saturday. The team of trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij won 2-0 against Go Ahead Eagles in the Philips Stadium. Joey Veerman scored one of the home team’s two goals.
The 24-year-old Veerman started back in the base at PSV for the first time in weeks. His starting place came a few days after PSV suffered a painful defeat against relegation place FC Emmen (1-0). Veerman was a permanent force at the start of this season, but lost his basic place after the winter break.
Veerman scored his goal in the fourteenth minute and opened the score. It was his first goal since August 28, when PSV beat Excelsior 1-6. Anwar El Ghazi determined the final score after the break. In the final phase, Van Nistelrooij let Fábio Silva make his debut this week.
Until El Ghazi’s goal, PSV had a hard time with Go Ahead Eagles, the current number eleven in the Eredivisie. Coach René Hake’s team had good opportunities to score, especially at the beginning of the second half, but failed to force the equalizer.
Number three PSV is approaching three points thanks to the victory at leader Feyenoord. The team from Rotterdam will visit FC Twente on Sunday and can then increase their lead again. Number two AZ, which plays against FC Utrecht later in the evening at 9 p.m., has one point more than PSV.
In addition to AZ-FC Utrecht, RKC-FC Emmen (6.45 p.m.), NEC-Sparta (8 p.m.) and sc Heerenveen-Vitesse (8 p.m.) are also scheduled on Saturday. PSV will continue the Eredivisie next Sunday with the squatter against Feyenoord.
