A 27-year-old man —prosecuted for a previous rape and recently released from prison— was captured under a bridge in the municipality of Pitalito (Huila) on Friday, January 27, accused of having entered a house of people who did not know him. , murdering a ten-year-old girl with a sharp weapon and assaulting her 67-year-old grandmother in an attempt to defend her.
Mr. Jonathan Francisco García Tapias spent a period of one year and four months in prison; first in Bogotá —where he is from—, and then in the Pitalito Medium Security Penitentiary and Prison Establishment (EPMSC), where he had been transferred.
According to the local newspaper La Nación, the man was the subject of a judicial process for the crime of violent sexual act, ruled in first instance by the Criminal Court 38 of the Circuit with Knowledge Function of Bogotá, on September 28, 2021 and in second instance by the Superior Court of the Criminal Chamber of Bogotá, on December 9, 2021. However, he was released on Wednesday, January 25 and was left wandering in the municipality.

The lady tried to protect the minor from the ex-convict’s aggression, but he wounded her with a sharp weapon in her chest area.
Seeing the older adult reduced, he proceeded to attack María Camila, who tried to defend herself from the abuse. The little girl’s act of resistance was responded to with four stab wounds to her back.
The neighbors entered the house to help the two wounded, who were transferred to the San Antonio Hospital. The grandmother is under reserved prognosis, while the girl died due to the seriousness of the injuries.

Colonel Gustavo Adolfo Camargo, commander of the Police Department in Huila, condemned “vehemently any type of violence against our children and adolescents and against women.” In addition, he gave details of the operation that was carried out to recapture the alleged perpetrator, under the Guarapas River bridge.
