At least three dead and one missing from heavy rains and flooding in New Zealand. The city of Auckland, the largest in the country, is in a state of emergency. The airport is closed and the road network “seriously affected”.
The Government has announced that it will allocate the equivalent of some US$65,000 in aid to communities. The priority now is to rescue people in danger and provide shelter for the victims.
Bad weather will continue for the next few days, so citizens are urged to follow the instructions of the emergency services.
