Soon, the Zero Alcohol Law will be discussed in the Senate
Promoted by the National Road Safety Agency, the Zero Alcohol at the Wheel Bill was presented in the National Congress in April 2021 and obtained half a sanction in the Chamber of Deputies on November 24 of last year. Days after that advance, it obtained a favorable opinion in the Senate’s Infrastructure, Housing and Transportation commission and was enabled for debate in the Upper House. It was included in the agenda of the Senate and is awaiting its treatment.
If sanctioned, it will be established at the national level that the blood alcohol tolerance for driving motor vehicles will be zero. Currently, there are 13 provinces that have regulations of these characteristics: the last to join was Buenos Aires, at the beginning of this year. Before, the law was already in force in Chaco, Chubut, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, Jujuy, La Rioja, Río Negro, Salta, Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego and Tucumán.
The same happens in more than 40 municipalities in the country, which have a zero alcohol driving regulation in their territories, as a preventive measure that seeks to reduce deaths and traffic injuries caused by drunk drivers. In Misiones by case, it is applied in the capital city of Posadas, by municipal ordinance.
