On the morning of Friday, January 27, 2023, flights to and from Medellín were temporarily suspended due to low visibility conditions. José María Córdova International Airport
The Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil) reported that, due to low visibility conditions that occur at the José María Córdova International Airport this Friday, January 27, flights to and from the air terminal that operates in Rionegro and serves the city of Medellín have been temporarily suspended.
“#Attention | Low visibility procedures at @AeropuertoMDE. Departures and arrivals temporarily suspended. Some flights to and from that terminal could present delays,” the air authority announced through its social networks.
In order to anticipate any changes or delays in their flights, the Civil Aeronautics recommended that travelers check the status of their routes with the airlines.

“The Airport had restrictions for takeoffs and landings, between 5:00 and 6:04 am, due to weather conditions (fog bank over the station). Although we still have low visibility, we already have authorization to operate,” added the air terminal.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that flights have been temporarily suspended at the Rionegro air terminal due to low visibility conditions. On November 1, 2022, Aerocivil reported that the weather conditions of the day caused problems in the takeoff and landing of the aircraft.
“#AttentosViajeros | Due to the low levels of visibility, the Airport is operating with restrictions for the landing and takeoff of aircraft. At the moment we have these effects: Departing flights: 9 with delays. Flights arriving: 4 with delays”, the Rionegro airport reported at that time through its Twitter account.
Minutes after the announcement, the air terminal announced that there were a total of 14 flights that had delays in their takeoff, five delays, and three more aircraft had to be diverted.
