In Heerlen, an apartment building with dozens of homes has been evacuated due to a fire. Shelter is arranged nearby for the residents. It is not yet clear whether they will be able to return home tonight.
According to a spokesman for the South Limburg security region, mainly elderly people live in the apartment complex. Some people had smoke inhalation and were checked by paramedics. One resident was taken to hospital for a check-up.
The fire broke out last night of unknown cause on the third floor of the apartment building. Firefighters extinguished the fire within hours.
