Earnest Stewart is PSV’s new director of football affairs as of 1 March. The American succeeds John de Jong and will sign in Eindhoven until mid-2027.
Stewart, 53, is currently technical director of the American Football Association. He was previously a director at VVV-Venlo, NAC Breda, AZ and the American Philadelphia Union. As a player, Stewart, who was born in Veghel, was active at VVV, Willem II, NAC and DC United.
General manager Marcel Brands explains that PSV was looking for a person with broad and international experience. “Earnest fits this profile perfectly with his past and current role.”
Stewart succeeds De Jong, who suddenly had to leave PSV in September. The Supervisory Board lacked confidence in further cooperation due to disagreements about the sales policy.
De Jong had ignored an urgent advice from the supervisory board to sell Cody Gakpo last summer. The attacker stayed and then impressed at the World Cup in Qatar. Gakpo left for Liverpool this winter for 50 million euros.
