A sacristan has died and four people have been injured in the attack with a knife this Wednesday in southern Spain. The police are investigating the facts as a possible terrorist attack of an Islamist nature.
The alleged perpetrator, a Moroccan man in his 40s who has already been arrested, had no police record. Armed with a katana, he broke into two churches in Algeciras.
First, around seven in the evening, local time, in San Isidro, where he attacked the priest, seriously wounding him. And then in Nuestra Señora de La Palma, five minutes from the first, where he murdered the sacristan.
He tried to flee to the patio but was fatally stabbed several times. The toilets could not do anything to save his life.
Witnesses say that the attacker entered with violence, climbing the parish altar, destroying everything in his path. According to investigative sources, he burst in shouting “Allah is great.”
The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has sent a message of condolence to those close to the fatality.
