Wout Weghorst scored his first goal for Manchester United on Wednesday evening. The thirty-year-old striker, who plays for manager Erik ten Hag’s club for just two weeks, scored in the first game against Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals of the League Cup.
Weghorst made it 0-2 in Nottingham just before half time. The nineteen-time international worked the ball into the roof of the goal in the rebound, after keeper Wayne Hennessey still had an answer to a shot from Marcus Rashford.
It is only the third time that Weghorst has made an appearance for United, who surprisingly rent him from Burnley for the rest of the season. The formation from the Championship had loaned him to Besiktas in the first half of the season. Weghorst was also in the starting line-up in the Premier League matches with Crystal Palace (1-1) and Arsenal (3-2 loss).
Thanks to Rashford, Manchester United started the game with Nottingham very well on Wednesday evening. The Englishman finished coolly in the sixth minute after a nice rush that he started in his own half.
The match between Nottingham Forest and Manchester United started at 9 p.m. and is therefore still ongoing. With Tyrell Malacia, another Dutchman kicked off at City Ground.
The clubs play each other twice in the semi-finals of the League Cup. The return at Old Trafford is next week. The winner of this diptych will face Newcastle United or Southampton in the final of the cup tournament.
