Borussia Dortmund narrowly beat FSV Mainz in the Bundesliga on Wednesday. Giovanni Reyna made the winning in injury time on a pass from Sébastien Haller: 1-2. Union Berlin beat Werder Bremen with the same figures and climbs to second place.
After five minutes it was already 1-1 at Mainz-Dortmund. Jae-Sung Lee headed the home team into the lead with a corner kick, but two minutes later it was level again. A long shot from right back Julian Ryerson ended up in the goal via a Mainz defender.
Dortmund seemed to be heading for a loss of points, but in injury time the away team was still allowed to cheer thanks to two substitutes. Haller headed through the ball on a corner kick, after which Reyna was able to tap from close range: 1-2. Reyna also signed for the winning match against FC Augsburg (4-3 win) on Sunday. Donyell Malen was substituted after an hour.
Haller made his debut for Dortmund against Augsburg. He made the switch from Ajax to the German club in the summer, but a malignant tumor was soon discovered in his testicle. In recent months, Haller underwent two surgeries and chemotherapy.
Dortmund rises to fifth place in the Bundesliga with the victory. On Sunday, the club will visit Bayer Leverkusen. Mainz is twelfth.

Union Berlin wins again
Sheraldo Becker and Danilho Doekhi have again booked a victory with Union Berlin. The formation won 1-2 at mid-engine Werder Bremen. On Saturday, the Berlin team won 3-1 against TSG Hoffenheim thanks to two goals from Doekhi.
Union Berlin, Ajax’s upcoming opponent in the Europa League, rises to second place in the Bundesliga with the victory. The club is three points behind Bayern Munich.
Goalkeeper Mark Flek had to settle for a point against Eintracht Frankfurt with SC Freiburg at home. Randal Kolo Muani gave the away team the lead just before half-time, but Matthias Ginter made it 1-1 in the second half.
Right back Jeremie Frimpong took three points with Bayer Leverkusen against low flyer VfL Bochum: 2-0. Mitchel Bakker and Timothy Fosu-Mensah stayed on the bench at Leverkusen for ninety minutes. Augsburg won 1-0 against Borussia Mönchengladbach with basic customer Jeffrey Gouweleeuw.
