There will be no film about Madonna’s life for the time being. The singer, who would direct the film herself, is going on a world tour and therefore no longer has time for the film starring Julia Garner (photo). Film studio Universal Pictures has discontinued the project, Variety reports.
Although Madonna was nearing completion of the script and casting had begun, the film is now “no longer in development” at Universal Pictures. It is not clear if and when the project will resume. According to insiders, Madonna still wants to make the film.
Madonna confirmed in 2021 that she was working on the film adaptation of the early years of her career. Ozark and Inventing Anna actress Garner was allowed to take on the role of the young Madonna.
The now 64-year-old singer announced last week that she would be going on a world tour again this year. In December she will give two concerts in the Amsterdam Ziggo Dome.
