The parents of Debanhi Escobar, Mario Escobar and Dolores Bazaldúa, went to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) on the morning of Tuesday, January 24, to meet with the authorities responsible for the case and in the afternoon they were received by the head of the Secretariat Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Rosa Icela Rodríguez.

In September 2022, the investigative folder was attracted by the FGR, after the parents accused that the counterpart agency in Nuevo León had not been involved in the case and that even in the first autopsies they indicated suffocation as the cause of death.

Because the head of the FGR, Alejandro Gertz Manero, is currently out of the country due to health problems, Mario Escobar was attended by a representative who, he said, listened to his ailments and concerns about the case; however, as she left, she acknowledged that they were not satisfied.

He clarified that in the meeting, which lasted about three hours, they were read their rights and attended to them personally to talk about the tragedy that occurred in April of last year.

“I am leaving calmly, I am not leaving satisfied, I will be satisfied when I find the alleged culprits, the alleged murderers of our daughter; if it’s one, if it’s two, if it’s three, that’s when we’re going to be satisfied”.

He pointed out that they trust that now that the investigation is in the hands of the FGR it can move forward more seriously; In this sense, he said that now they are calmer, because they know that they are working on the folder, although they are not satisfied because they still do not know who the perpetrators of the femicide of their daughter were, who was found lifeless in the cistern of the Nueva Motel Castile.

“They read us our rights (…) that everything we have a right is established, that we already knew in part, but it would have to be established in the folder, we told them our feelings,” revealed Mario Escobar.

He indicated that those responsible for the investigation were just analyzing some of the evidence that they seized during the search of Montel Nueva Castilla on December 15, although they did not indicate whether they were related to his daughter or someone involved in his death.

“They were analyzing some samples that they found. We do not know until now what is being determined. Right now our lawyers saw the folder, obviously it is a very different folder from the one that the Nuevo León Prosecutor’s Office brought, they start with the folder, I think there is only one volume, “the victim’s father pointed out to the media.

Dolores Bazaldúa, Debanhi’s mother, said for her part that she was confident that they will meet again with the FGR and advised fathers and mothers of families who are looking for their daughters or sons not to get tired of doing so.

Before the end of the day they met with Rosa Icela Rodríguez, who heads the SSCP. They did not give details about what was discussed during this last meeting; However, the official reported that she received the young woman’s parents and endorsed that the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is “committed to justice and the truth.”
