The Children and Adolescents Metropolitan Police explained that 53 incidents or requests have been made through the 123 Emergency line, so far in January 2023, related to minors who have been seen in a state of abandonment. Eight of these cases have been dealt with by the authorities during the month.

For his part, the Chief of the Police for Children and Adolescents, Major Diego Loza, detailed the moments of anguish experienced by the minor, when the special unit of the Bogotá police was present.
“She was asking for help and calling out her mother’s name so that they would take care of her,” said Loza.
The eldest explained that the minor was alone and in precarious conditions; likewise, she presented several hours of not having eaten food. During the police procedure, and in accordance with the protocols for the care and protection of minors, the uniformed officer asked the girl about her situation, who “barely stated that her mother abandoned her the day before.”

According to the police report, it was recorded that this citizen, who refused to reveal his identity, appeared in a state of drunkenness. Immediately, the uniformed officers carried out the search and rescue procedure for abandonment and negligence.
Major Diego Loza expressed that there are several reports that have been received by the 123 Emergency Line, a total of 53 so far this year, where it is reported about the abandonment of minors. In several cases, the minor’s parents appear to address the situation.
“Parents of families who have gone out to party, do recreational activities, walk and who have left their children in these states of abandonment,” explained the chief of the Police for Children and Adolescents.
It should be noted that, according to figures presented by the police institution in 2022, the authorities have managed to attend to 51 cases of abandonment. The localities most affected are: Bosa, Ciudad Bolívar and Usme.

The Colombian Institute of Family Welfare notified, on January 17, 2023, that this minor was left under the protection of the national entity after being found by the Police for Children and Adolescents in an abandoned situation in Bogotá.
“Once the situation was known, a team from the Family Ombudsman made the assessments and advanced the procedures to open a Rights Restoration Process (PARD) in favor of the girl,” the entity declared.
The ICBF adopted provisional protection measures where all the rights of the minor will be guaranteed. In turn, he reiterated the call to families to strengthen their role as the first protective environment.
