The criminal case has started in Rotterdam against the former alderman of The Hague Richard de Mos and seven others. They are suspected of forming two criminal organizations, official corruption and violating professional secrecy. Fifteen court days have been set aside for this.
Justice thinks that three real estate and two catering entrepreneurs from The Hague have been given a preferential position in exchange for donations totaling 113,000 euros to De Mos’s party. The entrepreneurs received information about future real estate projects and were able to influence municipal policy. They would also have received two night exemptions for catering establishments.
De Mos and his colleague Rachid Gernaoui, who is also on trial, arrived at the court in Rotterdam this morning in a striking green-yellow limousine. De Mos repeated that he was “very excited” to start the case and that the “road to rehabilitation” could begin.
The arrival of De Mos and Gernaoui:
Last week, professor of constitutional law Wim Voermans at Leiden University told Nieuwsuur that the OM file contains a lot of solid evidence for criminal acts. “The Public Prosecution Service says that there is a select group of entrepreneurs here who have donated heavily to the party. They seem to get things done to order and solid evidence for this is provided in this file,” said Voermans.
De Mos has said several times that he assumes an acquittal.
