President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) sent his condolences to the military who were ambushed by alleged members of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) in Coalcomán, Michoacán, on January 21.
In this vein, the president announced that the only soldier killed was the infantry colonel, Héctor Vargas Carrillo. He also reported that Rigoberto Hernández Mora, second infantry captain, is hospitalized at the Central Military Hospital.

An intense confrontation between elements of the Armed Forces and armed civilians took place this Friday night in the municipality of Coalcomán, in Michoacán. According to the reports, members of the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) were ambushed by alleged members of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) with a deceased high-ranking officer and other soldiers injured.
