Days later I sent it to him, ”he said.

“What did I tell you? García Luna’s involvement in drug trafficking and other things. The important issue is drug trafficking. He was aware. That same day, after that, he and I talking alone, standing next to his desk -I mean Mr. Calderón-, there I told him that his strategy was wrong and why it was wrong ”, he added.

The general was retired months later, in 2008, because of his age. However, an investigation was started against him, for which he was arrested in May 2012, months after the Calderón government ended. He was accused of having ties to the Beltrán Leyva Cartel, for which he was imprisoned in the Almoloya de Juárez Prison, State of Mexico.
It was 11 months later, on April 17, 2013, that he was released from prison, after a judge ordered the suspension of the process due to lack of evidence against him, but the damage had already been done.
