Nine people killed in shooting in suburb of Los Angeles

Nine people were killed at a club in a Los Angeles suburb when a man opened fire on them inside. In Monterey Park, where the shooting incident took place, thousands of people were on the street at the time to celebrate Chinese New Year. Some people were also injured and taken to hospital, but it is still unknown how many.

Eyewitnesses tell the LA Times that the gunman carried a machine gun and began firing into the club around 10 p.m. local time.

Monterey Park is located about six miles outside of downtown Los Angeles. A large Asian community lives in the place.
