Due to the 1-1 draw against Feyenoord, Ajax has set up the worst competition series in this century. The team from Amsterdam has now not won six Eredivisie matches in a row.
Players like Kenneth Taylor, Jurriën Timber and Brian Brobbey have never seen Ajax fail to win six consecutive Eredivisie matches. That happened for the last time in the 1998/1999 season. During that series, Morten Olsen was fired and replaced by Jan Wouters.
More than twenty years later, Ajax has again set up such a series. The team from Amsterdam last celebrated a victory in the Eredivisie on October 22 (1-4 visiting RKC Waalwijk). After that, PSV (1-2), Vitesse (2-2), FC Emmen (3-3), NEC (1-1), FC Twente (0-0) and Feyenoord (1-1) did not win successively .
It happened once this century that Ajax did not win five matches in a row. That was in the autumn of 2011 under Frank de Boer (four draws and one defeat). That year, Ajax was crowned national champion thanks to a nice catch-up race.
The team from Amsterdam only has 33 points halfway through the season, 6 less than last year in this phase of the competition. Ajax will continue the season on Thursday with a home match against low flyer FC Volendam.
