Striker Youssoufa Moukoko extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday until mid-2026. The eighteen-year-old top talent was linked to a departure from the German top club due to his expiring contract.
Chelsea, Newcastle United and FC Barcelona, among others, were associated with Moukoko. Various clubs would eventually have dropped out due to doubts about the age of the two-time German international.
Moukoko was officially born in 2004 in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon. Over the years, various media have claimed that the attacker’s birth certificate was incorrectly passed on at the time. Age fraud is common in Cameroon and Moukoko is also said to have cheated with his year of birth.
Moukoko caused a furore in Dortmund’s youth by scoring continuously and writing many records to his name. His achievements and mature appearance sparked debate about his age.
“It’s no secret that I feel good here,” Moukoko responds to the Dortmund site about his contract extension. “Here I took my first steps in professional football. Of course I was flattered by the interest of other clubs, but in the end my heart spoke.”
Trainer Edin Terzic often uses Moukoko this season. The attacker has six goals in fourteen games in the Bundesliga this season and is therefore the club’s top scorer.
Dortmund resumes the Bundesliga on Sunday with a home game against FC Augsburg. The club is seventh in the table, ten points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
