Wout Weghorst will be visiting Crystal Palace in Manchester United’s starting line-up in the Premier League game on Wednesday evening. The striker has been included in the match selection of coach Erik ten Hag for the first time and will therefore immediately make his debut.
Weghorst was taken over on a rental basis from Burnley last week, who loaned him to Besiktas for the first half of the season. On Saturday, the thirty-year-old Orange striker was still in the stands at the 2-1 win over fellow townsman Manchester City. He will kick off in London on Wednesday.
It is a new chapter in the fairy tale book that Weghorst is writing. The attacker started his professional career at FC Emmen and worked his way to the absolute top via several intermediate stations. At the World Cup, he was twice accurate against Argentina as a substitute, after which the Orange lost via penalty kicks.
Weghorst then cheerfully continued to score at Besiktas, which tempted Ten Hag to bring the fellow tukker to United. The striker will be hired from Burnley for the rest of the season.
Ten Hag is now transforming himself into Viceroy of Manchester. The former Ajax coach is on the rise: the win over City was already the sixth league victory in a row. Manchester United are currently fourth in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Arsenal.
Crystal Palace-Manchester United kicks off at 9 p.m. Weghorst is the only Dutchman on the field. Tyrell Malacia is on the bench at United. Jairo Riedewald has a reserve role at Crystal Palace.
