During the night of January 17, a person who was traveling in the Metro Collective Transportation System (STC) was hit on Line 8.

Likewise, some denounced that, as anticipated, the National Guard agents in charge of monitoring the Metro stations did not allow them to make any video recording of the situation.

Elements of the emergency services arrived at the place, according to the journalist Ilich Valdez. In one of the few images that circulated in this regard during the first minutes, it is possible to see the evicted train and a large number of police officers, accompanied by a couple of national guards.

The situation, in addition to causing displeasure among users due to the interruption of the service, raised various doubts regarding the work of the uniformed officers who recently arrived at the STC to protect the safety of citizens.

“Didn’t the GN guarantee the safety of the person?”, “Hey, what about the national guard?”, “And that’s not what the national guard is for? Or does it serve the same purpose as our police force?” They were some of the first comments that people shared on social networks about it.

On the other hand, there were those who took advantage of the tragic event to criticize the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum, head of government of Mexico City, on suspicion of an alleged “sabotage” against her.

It should be remembered that, given the multiple “atypical” failures reported in the Metro service during the first weeks of 2023, Sheinbaum Pardo requested the federal government to deploy 6,060 members of the National Guard throughout the transportation network with the objective of to support surveillance tasks and prevent possible “provoked” inconveniences.

The suspension in the circulation of trains was reported at 10:26 p.m. on January 17. Half an hour later, at 10:55 p.m., authorities shared on social networks that the service had been restored. “The advance of the trains is continuous,” they wrote in a brief message.

Viviana “N”, a woman who was arrested on January 12 for allegedly having dropped an object onto the tracks of the Centro Médico station on Line 9, was linked to proceedings for the crime of attacks on communication routes.

In a hearing, the justice system determined that the woman should be prosecuted for allegedly throwing plastic blades onto the tracks. However, it was resolved that it was not necessary to apply the preventive detention measure, so she will remain free and she will only have to periodically go to the Precautionary Measures Unit to sign a document.
