FC Groningen hires Danish defender Mads Bech Sørensen from Premier League club Brentford FC for the rest of the season. The number fifteen of the Eredivisie already strengthened itself on Tuesday with the Norwegian Johan Hove and the Swede Aimar Sher.
The 24-year-old Sørensen is described by technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus on the club site as a large, physically strong center defender. “We think he can be of direct value to our defense and also attribute leadership qualities to him.”
Sørensen started his career with the Danish AC Horsens, after which he made the switch to the English Brentford FC in 2017. The former youth international of Denmark has been rented out to AFC Wimbledon and OGC Nice in recent seasons.
Sørensen must provide more defensive stability at Groningen. The ‘Pride of the North’ scored 33 goals in sixteen league matches. Only FC Volendam (40 goals) and Excelsior (38 goals) collected more hits.
FC Groningen presented midfielders Hove and Sher on Tuesday. Hove was immediately taken over from the Norwegian Strømsgodset IF, while Sher came over on a rental basis from the Italian Spezia.
The team of trainer Dennis van der Ree continues the Eredivisie on Sunday with an away match against sc Heerenveen. The duel between the rivals starts at 12.15 pm in the Abe Lenstra Stadium.
