A large childcare company has fired an intern after she posted a video on social media of her displaying “unacceptable behavior” towards the children.
The young woman worked at a Kindergarden branch in the center of Amsterdam. It is not clear what exactly she did. The company does acknowledge in so many words that the well-being and safety of the children have been affected. The video has since been removed.
The company has reported to the police, whereupon a sex specialist, among others, has looked at the video that is circulating online. The police say that no criminal offenses can be seen. For example, a screenshot shows two young children who are dressed on top of each other. The woman is also said to have abused a child. “As far as we are concerned, it is up to the childcare organization to act further on this.”
Kindergarden writes in a letter to parents that the employees are quite shocked. “We are very sorry that this has happened.” The company does not apologize.
It also does not explain how the intern – apparently alone with the children – was able to make videos of her inappropriate behavior. It is the intention that someone in the childcare can always watch with a leader of a group. This so-called four-eyes principle was introduced after the Amsterdam sexual abuse case involving Robert M. in 2010.
Kindergarden says it is critically examining how this could have happened and what steps it needs to take to prevent it in the future. The company has more than seventy branches throughout the Netherlands.
