The company InnoGenerics is closing permanently. It mainly made unbranded medicines. Due to the closure, there are fears of a greater medicine shortage and an even greater dependence on China and India.
In this podcast we hear Weite Oldenziel who supplies raw materials for medicines with his company in Ter Apel in Groningen. He now also wants to produce medicines himself to reduce the shortages in Europe. He would prefer to see the Netherlands become partly self-sufficient when it comes to medicines.
Aukje Mantel, professor of Pharmacy and International Health Policy, also sees the threat of a shortage of medicines, which is partly due to the low price we are willing to pay in the Netherlands. She thinks that we have now reached the bottom of those drug prices.
