The fire in the Buenos Aires Ecological Reserve is “totally controlled”, although cooling and prevention tasks continue, since due to the heat and drought there is always a risk of new outbreaks proliferating.
Authorities from the CABA Environment Secretariat explained that the fire, which affected the Buenos Aires ecological reserve, located on the southern coast, since last Wednesday, “is fully controlled, but due to the heat and drought there is always a risk that it will proliferate.” new lights”.
For this reason, “the actions that are carried out during these hours consist mainly of cooling tasks and visual inspection to detect, check and prevent the fire from spreading again,” added a statement from the Government of the City of Buenos Aires.
Meanwhile, volunteer firefighters from the San Telmo neighborhood indicated that the troops are working in the place “to carry out ash guard and carry out cooling tasks.” According to the inspections carried out by the fire team of the City of Buenos Aires, a “normal panorama” was recorded, although tours of the affected areas continued to be carried out “to extinguish any active remains.”
These inspections were carried out with air support, especially in the Camino de los Plumerillos, Camino de los Lagartos and Camino del Medio areas of the Ecological Reserve.
In turn, a crew of City Firefighters fed by a tanker unit, worked this Monday on the Camino del Medio, where they attacked with two 38-millimeter lines, in order to carry out tasks of cooling and extinguishing small sources, according to sources. of the Buenos Aires City Police. On the other hand, in the Camino de los Lizards, another two fire brigades operated with one line of attack each, both fed by another tanker unit.
Faced with what happened, the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, toured the Reserve yesterday afternoon and expressed his appreciation “for the commitment and professionalism” with which all the forces of the emergency system worked together to fight the fires. that since last week affected the green riverside lung of the City”, added the official statement.
Larreta thanked the work of the personnel of the Reserve, Firefighters and City Police, Volunteer Firefighters, Forest Fire Brigade, SAME and Civil Defense along with Federal Police Firefighters.
It should be remembered that the fire originated again on the Camino de los Plumerillos, 100 meters from the Laguna Seca and in the vicinity of the Las Gaviotas lagoon.
The brigade members attacked a front of approximately 700 meters x 2.50 meters in height that appeared irregularly and in an area of bushes.
Two volunteer firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation and a City firefighter because an incandescent particle affected his eye, according to a police report.
The Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve is a 350-hectare green space bordering the City of Buenos Aires, delimited to the east by the river, to the west by Intendente Hernán M. Giralt avenue and Achával Rodríguez avenue, to the south by the former Sports City from Boca Juniors and to the north along the boardwalk of Puerto Nuevo.
