El Salvador has decreed a red alert in two municipalities in the west of the country after registering 200 tremors since Sunday night.
So far no fatalities have been reported, but dozens of Salvadorans are now homeless.
More than 100 houses were completely destroyed or as a precaution, members of Civil Protection have cordoned off several of them after presenting significant damage.
The Salvadoran Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources declared that seismic activity continues in the area, adding that it was caused by geological faults in the region and not related to volcanic activity.
The authorities do not rule out the occurrence of new earthquakes of a magnitude similar to or greater than those observed so far.
In addition to the tremors, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake was registered this Monday in the municipality of San Lorenzo, in the department of Ahuachapán, northwest of El Salvador. Guatemala, for its part, has suffered more than 100 tremors since Monday and Nicaragua also registered a 4.4 earthquake last Saturday.
