The owners of restaurant Carras from Den Bosch were surprised on Monday when they found a Shetlander on their terrace. Two guests had left the pony behind, Animal Ambulance Den Bosch informed NU.nl.
Volunteer Eric Meuffels of Dierenambulance Den Bosch received a call around 7:15 p.m. He found the shetland pony drenched in the rain on the terrace. “It was an old animal, you could tell by its gray head,” says Meuffels.
Soon the animal was given a warm blanket, some water and roots by the volunteers. “The police would be coming and we had called our colleagues from Dierenambulance Hokazo from Uden and Veghel in the meantime. They had a trailer come so that the pony could be taken.”
Not long after that bell, two men came to the terrace in a drunken state. According to Meuffels, they claimed that the animal belonged to them.
“The story became more and more strange. They had collected money to pay their bill at the restaurant and told the police that they had received the pony from someone in Deuteren. They said he was standing next to the road and asked the men if they had the shetlander. wanted to have.”
Chip untraceable
The men wanted to take the pony back, but the volunteers and the police put a stop to that. “My colleague asked them if they had proof of purchase. The animal was chipped, but it turned out to be an invalid, untraceable number,” says Meuffels.
He doesn’t have a good word for the two. “They were idiots. Who would take such an old mare downtown? It’s not a dog.”
Police are investigating shady story
Police questioned and released both men. The pony has been transferred to the Hokazo Animal Shelter. Three people have already reported who want to give the animal a loving home. “The police have told us that they are now investigating the case. Especially because it is a shadowy story that the men told.”
The owner of the animal is still unknown. If the owner does not report within two weeks, the pony can be put up for adoption.
A spokesperson for the Den Bosch police could not yet say anything about the investigation into the men and the owner.
