Like something out of a movie and in a series of unusual events, on January 15 Bogotá witnessed the theft of 65 million pesos from a group of Mexican tourists who, a couple of hours later, were returned to their owners.

According to Semana Magazine, a group of 10 friends of Mexican nationality traveled to the southern cone of the continent to take a motorcycle trip from Bogotá to Patagonia (Argentina), for which they had a budget of $16,250, which is equivalent to $65 million Colombian pesos.
Staying at a hotel located in the Modelia neighborhood, called Hotel Oporto 83, the tourists went shopping and to see the city, and when they returned, the savings for the trip had disappeared. The hotel immediately contacted the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, who immediately began the investigation of the case.

The relatives of the victims found the bodies in the kitchen of a house located in the Patio Bonito sector.
Specifically, it was the members of the police from quadrant 6 of the town, who attended the commercial establishment and began the investigation. The first thing they did was question all the workers in the establishment, as well as people who work in the surrounding area. At the same time, the Police analyzed the content of the security cameras surrounding the hotel, which resulted in a suspect: one of the waitresses who works at the hotel.
Immediately afterwards, the authorities found the whereabouts of this person who, when cornered, not only admitted her guilt in the robbery and that it was she who had taken the large sum, but also told them where she had hidden the money. .

The only two Latin American cities that were in the top 10 cities in which citizens lose the most hours due to traffic were the Colombian capital and Monterrey.
This is the most unusual part, since the money was recovered: she hid the 65 million pesos in a sewer located in the center of Bogotá, in the town of Santa Fe, although beforehand she made sure to wrap it well so that the bills would not they would neither get wet nor dirty.
What most caught the attention of the authorities is that the woman decided to hide that sum of money in front of everyone’s noses, in a “hideout” through which many people pass daily, and what is even smarter, that would not generate any type of suspicion, since few dare to look at what happens under the asphalt.
The police officers who carried out the investigation immediately went to the place referred to by the woman and, after confirming the information, recovered the dollars.
“We are going to Patagonia. Our journey begins here in Bogotá, but unfortunately we suffered a robbery at the hotel where we stayed, but thanks to the intervention of the Police and the hotel we got our money back. We, as tourists, are grateful for what they did for us. We leave not with a bad taste, but infinitely grateful for the work they did,” said one of the tourists who was affected by this incident on January 15.
The hotel owner, disappointed by her worker’s betrayal, but committed to doing the right thing, reported the woman who worked for her to the authorities. Now, the case is in the hands of Colombian justice.
It is noteworthy that several uniformed officers of the National Police, this Sunday, accompanied hundreds of tourists who visit the sanctuary of the Fallen Lord, located on the Cerro de Monserrate.
“We are monitoring the influx of national and foreign people, who come to meet or pay their promises on this Sunday, so during the week they will find constant support to guarantee everyone’s safety,” said Colonel Juan Chavarro, Chief of Prevention of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, quoted by Semana Magazine.
