In Ecuador, the Cotopaxi volcano keeps the inhabitants of the town of Ticatilín on alert after it began to emit gases and tons of sulfur dioxide.
This Sunday an evacuation drill was carried out so that men, women and children are prepared for any eventuality. Ecuadorian scientists point out that volcanic activity is moderate.
“We as vigilantes are attentive to the (activity of) the Cotopaxi volcano. We feel great concern for this population that you see here. We have decided to carry out an internal drill ourselves, to have our own contingency plan since the Cotopaxi volcano alert It has been broadcast for some time and unfortunately there has not been a pronouncement from the authorities,” said lookout José Chuqui.
The volcano, which is located 50 kilometers from Quito, registered activity again since last October, reported the Geophysical Institute of Ecuador. At that time, the Government activated the yellow alert in its areas of influence.
The ash rain has begun to affect the communities of San Agustín de Callo, San Ramón, Ticatilín and Macalo Grande. On two occasions, ash has fallen in the south of Quito
Cotopaxi is considered the most dangerous volcano in the country due to its eruptive style, relief, glacier coverage, and the number of people at risk.
