Mark van Bommel suffered a sensitive defeat with Royal Antwerp on Sunday. The team of the Dutch coach lost the Belgian top match against Royale Union SG 2-0.
Halfway through it was 1-0 by a goal from Dante Vanzeir. In the final phase, Teddy Teuma made the decision by shooting from a penalty, which was awarded after hands from Vincent Janssen.
All Dutch players of Royal Antwerp had a basic place. In addition to Janssen, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Calvin Stengs also kicked off. Ekkelenkamp was substituted just after the 2-0.
After a rock-solid start to the season, the draft has come in quite well at Antwerp. Van Bommel’s team won only three of the last eleven league games. Low flyer KV Oostende is the next opponent on Wednesday.
Royal Antwerp is number three in Belgium after twenty games. Thirteen points are conceded to leader KRC Genk. The gap to number two Royale Union SG is six points.
On Wednesday, Van Bommel reached the semi-finals of the cup tournament with Royal Antwerp. Genk was defeated 0-3, partly thanks to an early goal by Janssen. Royale Union SG awaits in the semi-final battle.
