The Film Critics Award (originally called the Critics Choice Movie Awards) is an award granted by the Broadcast Film Critics Association in recognition of excellence in film achievements and in its 2023 edition it will feature more than one Mexican who could win the statuette.

This Sunday, January 15, the 28th gala that will bring together artists of international stature will take place, with the Century Plaza hotel in the city of Los Angeles, in the state of California (United States), being the ideal place for it to take actress and comedian Chelsea Handler makes her hostess debut for the night at the next big awards season ceremony.
After Guillermo del Toro triumphed at the 2023 Golden Globes, this edition also has more than one Mexican in some important categories, broadening the panorama of recognition for filmmakers who in recent years have placed the spotlight on Mexico and the national talent that it possesses.

In his speech as the winner of the Golden Globe in the 2023 edition, the director of Pinocchio recognized the work of the team of animators that collaborated with him and also assured that animation is a genre that should not be minimized compared to others within cinematography: “Animation is cinema. Animation is not a children’s genre, it is a medium”, but now it could get a Critics Choice Awards.

With the same Netflix film, which indirectly competed against Disney’s live action that has been ignored from said awards season, the Mexican is nominated in the Best Animated Feature Film category, where his rivals will be: Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Turning Red, and Wendell & Wild.

After winning the Oscar for Best Film, the Mexican continues to position himself as one of the favorite filmmakers of professional critics, since his film Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths (Bardo, false chronicle of a few truths) has been considered for the 2023 Critics Choice Awards to win a statuette for the Best Foreign Film category.
The film stars Daniel Giménez Cacho as a Mexican journalist and documentarian, it will compete against the big winner of the 2023 Golden Globe, Argentina, 1985, as well as All Quiet on the Western Front, Close, Decision to Leave and RRR.

Unlike what happened with the Golden Globes 2023, this ceremony will be broadcast to Mexico and the rest of Latin America, being broadcast live on TNT (by restricted signal television) and HBO Max – the streaming alternative – at 9 pm from the center of the Aztec country.
