A magnitude 6 earthquake was detected Monday morning off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the United States Seismological Institute (USGS) reported.

The earthquake’s epicenter is located about 48 kilometers south-southeast of the city of Singkil, in the Indonesian province of Aceh, at a depth of 48 kilometers, the USGS said.
Another earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.6, had also been recorded a week earlier off the coast of Indonesia, near East Timor.
