Feyenoord has strengthened the lead in the Eredivisie on Sunday. The fifteen-time national champion won without any problems against FC Groningen (0-3) and is therefore ahead of Ajax and PSV.
The one-sided match in the Euroborg was actually decided after half an hour by hits from Igor Paixão and captain Orkun Kökçü. The weak FC Groningen did not get Feyenoord into trouble for a moment and had to swallow a third goal in the final minutes. Santiago Gimenez was the goalscorer.
Feyenoord saw Ajax (0-0 against FC Twente) and PSV (2-2 at Fortuna Sittard) lose points just like last week and now has a five point lead over both competitors. AZ concedes four points and is therefore closest to the leader.
In the next round, Feyenoord can make another important move. The team of trainer Arne Slot will play against the ailing Ajax in De Kuip next Sunday.
Things are getting worse for FC Groningen. The team of trainer Dennis van der Ree was still embarrassed midweek by losing to Spakenburg in the cup and, as number fifteen in the Eredivisie, must seriously fear relegation.

As expected, Feyenoord was the better team in Groningen from the start on Sunday. The players mainly moved to half of the home team, although there were not really great opportunities for a long time.
After a warning shot from Alireza Jahanbakhsh – keeper Michael Verrips tapped the ball over – Paixão did hit the target. The Brazilian headed home with conviction and scored his first goal for Feyenoord.
The plagued FC Groningen did almost nothing in return and after half an hour faced a greater deficit. Kökçü was given plenty of room to shoot and found the far corner beautifully. Before the break, teammate Mats Wieffer almost scored in the same way, but Verrips saved.
Feyenoord could also do what it wanted after the break and Jahanbakhsh and Dávid Hancko were soon close to 0-3. A little later, Wieffer headed wide. The team from Rotterdam gradually relaxed the reins, which led to some danger from FC Groningen striker Ricardo Pepi in the final phase.
It wasn’t really exciting anymore. In the closing minutes, Marcus Pedersen missed a chance on Feyenoord’s third goal, but it was substitute Giménez who did provide a suitable final chord.
