Flames and a powerful explosion: this is how a gas tank exploded and injured six people in Nezahualcóyotl

A strong explosion inside a house in the municipality of Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico, left six injured.

Residents of Amecameca tried to lynch alleged “santeros” for environmental damage

According to the authorities, the explosion occurred at 05:50 this Saturday in a building located on Ardilla street, in the Benito Juárez neighborhood.

A video was even broadcast on social networks showing the seconds before and after the explosion. In the 01:15 minute clip you can see a deserted street of people but a couple of dogs pass by, the camera points to a house, apparently with two floors with a railing, several cars, a van and even the grill of a motorcycle taxi.

Such was the force that it is immediately observed that the railing that adorned the house across the street is on the other side of the block, and several neighbors come out to see what happened.

Minutes later, Civil Protection elements arrived, as well as police and firefighters from the municipality, who cordoned off the area. They indicated that the accident originated from the accumulation of gas.

According to preliminary reports, those injured suffered first and second degree burns on their faces, necks and part of their arms.

Among the injured are Carlos, 31, Feliciano María, 32, Melanie and José Manuel. Also two minors identified as Marilenie ‘N’, 7 months old, and Abdiel Nava, 4 years old, both with burns on their arms and part of their faces.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries, the family was channeled to the General Hospital of La Perla and Gustavo Baz Prada, where their prognosis is reserved.

In addition to damage to the first floor of the house, the fence of an adjoining house fell and two more registered other types of damage.

Experts in the field of civil protection ensure that many Mexican families minimize the correct maintenance and proper placement of gas installations, in addition to the fact that few people have a plan to deal with this type of emergency.

An explosion is the maximum manifestation of a gas accumulation that is activated by a heat source and, although detonations are not very common, leaks are, especially due to poor piping installation or carelessness not to adequately close the passage in fixed installations.

When detecting a gas leak, the most important thing is to verify the origin, close the fuel stopcocks and even cut off the electric current to prevent a heat source from causing a detonation.

It is necessary to adequately ventilate the house and report it to the building administration, if you live in a group of apartments, or to the neighbors if it is a single-family home. If the gas leak cannot be controlled, then the supplier company’s leak center or the fire brigade should be called.

Likewise, it is important to always have a backpack or help folder on hand that contains basic documents and telephone numbers.

While to avoid leaks and accumulation of LP or natural gas, it is necessary to adequately check the facilities, that the pipes are painted yellow, according to the Official Mexican Standard NOM-0026, and that they are not cracked or exposed to factors that may cause it to break.
